Beast of the Grand Canyon

“What Just Emerged At the Grand Canyon Terrifies

Scientists”. By Samuel Akinola

Eyes glow in the darkness, razor-sharp teeth bearing together, like a butcher preparing the knives. The silent growl of the beast wafts through the cold cave, its paws pounding the rocky ground, moving relentlessly in the darkness, sizing up the intruders. It snarls and edges a little closer, sniffing its would-be prey.

The explorers, a group of five scientists, begin to step backwards slowly while holding their breath in terror of the beast. Any quick move might be their end. Terror grips them at the unexpected encounter. They have heard about this beast, the Monster of the Grand Canyon, and set out to prove it does not exist. Unfortunately, they have encountered it, or what could be it, but still cannot make it out in the darkness, being reluctant to turn on their flashlight.

With trembling hands, the group leader brings out her flashlight and flicks it on. In a split second, the beast spirits away from the light and was no more, leaving the terrified scientists in bewilderment. She switches it off, just a few seconds after the beast appears again from another part of the cave. Its pair of eyes glows in the darkness, its predator-white teeth flashing in the dark.

The explorers begin to step back from the cave as the beast edges closer. Legends in the Havasupai Tribe spoke of ancient beasts that roamed the canyon; perhaps this is it, or a remnant of the ancient beasts. The conspiracy going around had it that the beast lived, and its existence had been covered up. Now, what just emerged from the Ground Canyon terrifies the scientists.

MEET THE SCIENTISTS

Dr Molle

  • The lead scientist thinks the conspiracy of the monstrous beast of the Grand Canyon is a myth. , leads her fellow scientists to explore the Grand Canyon and possibly prove the myth of the conspiracy.

  • Skeptical about the whole exploration, prefers to hang out in the Havasupai Falls rather than seek out an elusive beast. At the sight of a beast lurking in the dark cave, he bolts out in terror even before the beast emerges.

Dr Frederik

  • Hopes to regain his honour by proving the conspiracy is a myth.

Lilian

  • Thinks it is sacrilege to disrespect the legend of the Havasupai Tribe by seeking the elusive beast.

Utah

  • Serves as a local guide and as the protector of the team, but fails to prepare for the encounter.
