SAM’S CLUB CALL-IN POLICY

Sam

Introduction

We are humans. Yes, sometimes we fall sick and will not be able to perform our jobs. Emergencies, too, can arise and force us out of work—situations beyond our control. In some cases, it could just be sheer laziness, poor work ethics, or other work-related vices, so that we had to lie to get out of work. Some work can be exhilarating that staff have to lie to get off it temporarily—I do not attempt to judge.

Every worker has certain rights, depending on the country, the companies, and the governing laws. In a democratic society rights and privileges of workers are guaranteed and protected by the appropriate laws and Union bodies that can be healthy or unhealthy—nothing in human societies is perfect—worth noting.

Sam’s Club, like every legal and regulated company in the United States, has its call-in policy, which we shall discuss. Before discussing this call-in policy in detail, you have to get to know Sam’s Club as a business organization.

CALL IN POLICY

You are now aware of what Sam’s Club is, its markets, and services. Now we talk about its call-in policy.

Such a big company as Sam’s Club with hundreds of warehouses, outlets, and sub-outlets spread across the world must (and has) have policies to guide all its operations and thousands of staff.

As an organization man by human policies guiding sick leave, work leave, emergency leave, and other related leaves are in place.

The part-time and full-time staff of Sam’s Club have the privilege to call in, but it must be approved by management. This policy also states the penalties for arriving late to work, absence without approval, and leaving work earlier than the closing time.

Sam’s Club does not tolerate absence without a call-in. It is required that staff inform the management in case of sickness or an emergency that would not him/her from being on duty. Even at this, the staff will still acquire penalty points that will stay on the official record for up to six months of employment. If the staff member reached four points (four unplanned absences) within the first six months of employment, the appointment will be terminated. A staff member who has been with the company for a long time can have their job terminated if the penalty points reach nine.

Apart from call-ins, if a staff member (part-time or full-time) comes to work more than two hours late or leaves work more than two hours early will acquire half a point. Should the staff have a medical emergency that makes absence inevitable, or cannot call in due to the seriousness of the emergency, a doctor’s note could help them keep their job.

Sam’s Club Paid Time Off

Perhaps you think the call-in policy is too stringent; anyway, staff (on both salaried and hourly) can use their paid time off (PTO) instead of call-in. I will explain better.

Every staff member is entitled to paid time off (PTO), which the staff can choose to take as at when due or choose not to take. Should he or she choose not to take the paid time off, it will be credited to the staff’s record and can use it for a sick day or any other emergency rather than calling in. If the staff makes up PTO instead of calling in/she will not be penalized and still get paid.

Conclusion

Many companies have a policy governing call-in, which includes Sam’s Club. Sam’s Club’s call-in policy is stringent, but staff can take advantage of paid time off (PTO) to avoid call-in penalization.
